Michelle Taube perfectly captures the character of one of Manchester's best loved pubs, 'The Peveril of the Peak', in this mix media artwork combining painting and collage into a playful take on a classic. Seen beneath a typical grey sky, the pubs' emerald and lime green tiles glow brightly beckoning you in for a pint.

Run by one of Britain’s oldest and longest-serving landlords for five decades, landlady Nancy Swanick continues to resist pressure to close the 'Pev' and become another victim of city centre ‘regeneration’.

The 'Pev' dates back to 1830, when it was first registered as a public house. Its name is a matter of dispute; some saying it commemorates a horse-drawn stagecoach that departed from the nearby Peacock Coach Office on Market Street when the pub opened, whilst others say it comes from the 1823 Sir Walter Scott novel of the same name, which references Peveril Castle near Castleton in Derbyshire.

Michelle Taube is an artist based in Manchester, best known for her architectural and football themed work. Her process involves the layering of oil paints, which is combined with collage and photography, allowing for a decorative effect.

Taube completed a degree in Illustration at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she specialised in watercolour painting and children’s book illustration. She won the IJAYA Young Artist of the Year award in 2007, giving her the opportunity to exhibit at Christie's auction House in London.
