Manchester Central Library, depicted here by Phil Shelly, strikes an imposing figure, splashed with one of Manchester's signature colours (depending on who you ask).
Facing St Peter's Square, the library was designed by E. Vincent Harris and constructed between 1930 and 1934. The form of the building, a columned portico attached to a rotunda domed structure, is loosely derived from the Pantheon, Rome.
Phil Shelly is our resident photographer and also an illustrator working in the heart of Manchester as Phil Shelly Creative. After studying Illustration at Plymouth University, Phil packed up and headed up north to Manchester to create a variety of pop culture art and landscape based art.
